Teach your kid to ride a bike in just 4 steps

Riding a bike seems easy for the child until he sits on the saddle and realizes it’s more difficult in fact. But it's just an impression that you have to shake off. You can do it in four simple steps, which will help the child gain confidence and understand the principle of riding a bike.

Step I
First of all, you have to teach your child to handle the bike on the spot. It will help him understand how to get on a bicycle, how to keep it and how not to fall out of it while sitting on the spot, practicing on a run bike, a tricycle, a trot or a bicycle with helm wheels. At the same time, you should keep in mind that the psychological factor is also important. Help your child get over his fear by reinforcing his confidence.

Step II
As soon as the young cyclist learns what to do with the bike, next lesson is teaching him how to balance. Let him move the bike with his feet – for that, set the saddle to the right position. Explain your child how to fix the foot on the ground when the bicycle tilts and starts falling. And when he already feels the direction of the bike and the way to balance it, it's time to show him how to pedal. Support his bike while he's pedaling and moving forward. Hold the bike as your child is pedaling and moving forward.

Step III
The next step is explaining how to handle the steering wheel, and especially that it can help keep the bike balanced. Make sure that your child synchronizes all the actions and understands that at the same time he needs to pedal, but also watch the direction of the front wheel. At the same time, by teaching the child how to accelerate, you need to explain him how to brake correctly.

Step IV
As you hold the bike, allow your child to accelerate. Don’t let your child pedal on his own unless he’s ready, but before he is, prevent him. With little speed, the child will be able to handle the bike on his own. It is desirable that the first training should be made on the grass, so that a fall may be softer, but the speed will not be too high. The child trusts you above anyone else, and when he rides his first meters on a bike, he needs support. Praise him for the headway and help him stand up if he falls, encouraging him to try again.

In a short while, as soon as your child feels how to start, brake and balance, you won’t be able to catch him, since he will spend most of his time on the bike. But you can switch to a new level and engage him in real cycling competitions. For that, you can register your child for the biggest children’s cycling race - Kids Criterium, due on May 12, in the Great National Adunări Naționale. Vă puteți înregistra copiii AICI!
